Studio Prineas was thrilled to be invited by Living Edge to be part of ‘Unleashed Potential’ the Magis Puppy Design Challenge — held during Saturday in Design
Our response to the theme of ‘Italian’ began with the Puppy itself — an Italian design icon — and the idea of giving it a distinctly Italian character.
Taking cues from the wonderfully shaggy Bergamasco Italian Shepherd Dog and Italy’s traditions of leatherwork and tailoring, we created a fringed coat from leather offcuts donated by our upholsterer. The fringe was deliberately designed to work with the irregularity of the offcuts, elevating remnants that might otherwise be discarded and making their variation feel intentional rather than incidental.
The leather is brought together through considered stitching and wrapping details, including an integrated nose — techniques that draw on details we use within our architectural and interior design.
Like our work, the finished Puppy balances economy with craft, and playfulness with refinement. Joyful, elegant and unmistakably Italian.
Thank you to Josh from Improvision Design for generously supplying the leather off cuts, thank you to Grace Rock for championing the project in the studio and for her perfect needlework, thank you to Estefania from Living Edge for inviting us to participate and raise funds for Sydney Dogs & Cats Home and thank you to our whole Studio Prineas team for their ideas and enthusiasm in bringing Pelle to life!
