Montage Apartment
Double Bay
Gadi Country
The Brief
Convert an unremarkable 1990s apartment into a joyful family home that balances luxury and environmental responsibility.
The Result
Studio Prineas approached the redesign with an analytical and inventive mindset, Embracing the ethos to ‘think more, build less,’
Seeing new possibilities within the apartment’s existing layout, a reductive approach was applied to ‘rescale’ its volume, modernise its expression, and enhance its quality of light. Environmental responsibility drove the conceptual design, resulting in both time and cost savings for our client.
The apartment’s original bathrooms, swathed in Calacutta marble, offered a springboard for the material palette. It inspired the embracing of a resourceful attitude to find ways to retain it and enhance it. A golden yellow was chosen to highlight the marbles warm vein, applying it across the ceiling, joinery, and doors, with complimentary coloured tile grout for a cohesive, striking reinvention. Accents of grey micro-cement create a cooling reprieve, while existing tapware was thoughtfully retained and refinished in cobalt blue, offering an unexpected and joyful contrast.
Showcasing how minor yet highly strategic changes can completely transform a space, the design has created a new era within an existing building, redefining the client’s experience of their home.
The Feeling
A rich and cohesive outcome. A luxurious and practical reinvention for a young family.
