Land of Bidjigal and Gadigal
The brief – Update our traditional Australian semi with its kitchen, laundry and bathroom in an uninspiring lean-to at the back of the house to give us more space, more light and a better way of living.
The result – A fresh, bright, rear extension provides maximum space and light thanks to expansive windows on the sunny north side of the house.
Inside, descending timber steps, designed to flow with the natural slope of the site, serve to open up the ceiling proportions creating an airy, lofty kitchen and living space with inviting views to the garden.
Our favourite feature is the master bedroom where we extended behind the fireplace, into the second bedroom, to create a bathroom on one side and a luxurious walk-in-wardrobe on the other. Warm with heritage features this home is cleverly updated with clean, contemporary lines, expansive, hidden storage and newly opened spaces illuminated by the joy of uninterrupted sunshine.
Fresh, open, lofty and illuminated.
