Zephyr House

Queenscliff
Garigal Country

The Brief

To create a robust, multigenerational forever home, rooted in a deep connection to its cherished beachside location.

The Result

Nestled into the site’s natural slope, the split-level form of Zephyr House minimises its presence from the street, allowing the home to sit quietly within the coastal setting. The upper-level pivots northward, with articulated window boxes tailoring views to the ocean. A battened aluminium screen unifies its form, shading the interiors and veiling windows in a refined rhythm.

Internally, the living spaces open to northern ocean views, while ancillary spaces rest quietly to the south. A central courtyard provides refuge from coastal winds, with expansive glazing drawing natural light and landscape deep into the heart of the home.

Throughout, Zephyr House eschews applied interior finishes in favour of expressing the home’s architectural envelope. Timeless in design and materiality, Zephyr House harnesses sunlight, coastal breezes, and layered outdoor spaces to support intuitive living across generations. Its quiet palette and pared-back detailing offer a calm backdrop for family life, with the maturing landscape set to further embed the home in its environment, deepening its connection to place.

The Feeling

“Against the surrounds of ocean vistas and windswept greenery, the house eschews applied interior finishes in favour of the inherent beauty of the primary construction.”
